Rename ‘Network 2’ (or higher) back to ‘Network’ on Windows 10

I just changed my router and all my computers Network names incremented by one. This does not really effect the operation of Windows but I for one don’t like it.

The Network 2 name is actually Network[SPACE][SPACE]2.

This involves changes to the registry so please back up first
(Right click the Profiles Node and select Export…)

Open REGEDIT

Browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles

network
Example of Network Subkeys

Find the the subkeys that contains the ProfileName Network and Network 2, then delete (or rename with _old suffix) the one that contains Network (this is the old one)

Click on the Network 2 subkey and rename the ProfileName of Network 2 to Network.

Reboot
